Who is Mydas? A PRINCE Of A Professional

NAME: Prince Mydas
NICKNAME(S): Too Many To Mention!
DATE OF BIRTH: June 24, 68
BIRTHPLACE: Hanover, Jamaica
PLACE OF RESIDENCE : Long Island, New York
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN TOURING/WORKING WITH SHAGGY?:
Brian, Tony & myself (then know as 'Goldmine') did a song
on his 'Boombastic' album. Remained friends but didn't work
with him again until I did 'Hope', which was May 1999.
I have been in the Big Yard Family since then.
DO YOU PLAY ANY MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS? (LIST ALL):
Percussions
HOW LONG HAVE YOU PLAYED THESE INSTRUMENTS?:
Played while touring with Shabba, but haven't played since
HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN SINGING?: Too long and not long enough!
DID/DO YOU HAVE VOICE TRAINING: Yes
IF SO, WHERE?: Jamaica
YOUR FAVORITE MUSIC: My favorite genre of music is R&B
WHAT OTHER ARTISTS/BANDS HAVE YOU TOURED/WORKED WITH?:
Shabba, Patra, Mad Cobra, Funky Poets, Born Jamericans...
DO YOU WRITE, READ AND/OR PRODUCE MUSIC AS WELL?:
Yes (write), to some extent (read), yes (produce)
WHAT ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS SINGER
WITH SHAGGY?:
I am not actually a singer with Shaggy, as in I don't tour
with him, neither as a vocalist or a band member. I am
an individual artist signed to the Big Yard label. So if I do a song
with Shaggy, say on his album, I would be a "feature" e.g. "Hope"
by Shaggy, feat. Prince Mydas. Therefore, I have no responsibilities
as such to Shaggy. I go to the studio to record for my album, or just
for the catalogue. If Shaggy has a song that he thinks I would sound good
on, he will say, "I have a track for you", "put down some vocals on this"
or "do backgrounds on this", etc. And we just do it. That's how it works.
WHAT INFLUENCED YOU MUSICALLY OR OTHERWISE
TO SINGING?:
I just knew I had to do it. I had to sing. It's my calling.
WHAT TYPES OF MUSIC CAN/DO YOU SING?:
R&B, Reggae
UPCOMING ALBUM/CD: My album is finished and should be released soon.
ON TOURING/WORKING WITH SHAGGY:
It is always a lot of fun working with Shaggy and the guys.
I think The Family works well together. There are a lot
of talented people in the crew, and we all love the music
and love to fool around too. So, it never really seems like work.
We all love what we do. That's the greatest thing.
ON FUTURE OUTLOOK: Just going where the music takes me for now.... :)
